What are the different roles in a care home?
At Birchwood, everyone plays their part. We take so much pride and care in the work that we do, and knowing we can make a difference in our residents’ lives is so important.
We genuinely care about our residents, and the connections we make is what makes us so special. We make sure every resident can enjoy their time here, and feel cared for every day with loving, qualified staff.
And because our team is nothing short of exceptional, we thought it’s time to introduce everyone! Here, we want to spotlight all the different roles in our care home, and just how each person supports our residents’ wellbeing.
Senior team
- Chief Executive – Niral is our CEO, who started running Birchwood after his father, Kiran. He’s responsible for the overall quality of our care, setting out Birchwood’s promise of full emotional and physical support. Niral sets the tone for how people are treated, whether this is staff or residents. He promotes kindness and respect, supporting our team with training and development, as well as prioritising person-centred care for our residents.
- Registered Home Manager – Claire is our manager, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. She started her career in care at just 18 years old by volunteering to work night shifts with her mother. Today, almost two decades later, Claire still works in the industry and has risen through the ranks. She is the heart of our home, overseeing the day-to-day running and ensuring our high standards of care.
Carers
Birchwood wouldn’t be what it is without our wonderful carers. We’re so lucky to have such dedicated Team Leaders, such as Dionne and Tori. They have both been in the care industry for years, going above and beyond to make sure our residents are supported. They help to lead the care team on shifts, overseeing care, monitoring residents and acting as a point of contact for families and other visitors.
Suzy is one of our Senior Carers, and Natalie and Rose are two of our great Care Assistants. These carers are essential for providing direct, hands-on support to residents with their daily needs. Residents often interact with carers more than anyone else, so it’s important that they are surrounded by warmth and positivity. By forming these social connections and trusting relationships, residents can feel comfortable advocating for their needs. Carers aren’t just providing physical support; by encouraging independence, they promote dignity and allow our residents to feel in control.
We find our work truly meaningful, and loved to hear the following from one of our care assistants:
“The main reason I like working at Birchwood is because I enjoy being with the residents, not just the personal care, but the time that I spend with them, chatting to them and getting to know each resident individually. I also enjoy working with the team, they are so friendly and welcoming. “
House
Our house staff is made up of kitchen assistants, housekeepers, gardeners and friendly visitors. All of them play a significant role in keeping our home clean, tidy and welcoming.
- Chef – Chef John is responsible for planning, prepping and serving nutritious meals for our residents. He always creates balanced meals that meet the dietary and cultural needs of every resident. Donna is one of our kitchen assistants, helping support Chef John with serving meals and ingredient prep.
- Housekeepers and gardeners – we’re very lucky to have such dedicated staff that ensures our residents live in a cosy space. Our housekeepers Tracey and Nicole keep communal areas clean and homely, whilst our gardeners maintain our 9-acres of beautiful grounds.
- Friendly visitors – we’re often visited by the local vicar, GPs, opticians and dentists, and we have a regular podiatrist and reflexologist. We also have local fitness legend Sarah Domoney at the home for weekly Functional Fitness classes to support physical wellbeing.
Our Activities Lead, Lizzie, is also an integral part of our team. She does so much for our residents, always making sure they have lots of fun and truly feel at home. One resident even said:
“I have seen Lizzie coordinate a number of activity groups and I have been impressed by her keenness, vivacity, and competence. She involves everyone and makes everyone happier.”
There are many different roles in a care home, and we’re so lucky that each role is led by someone who genuinely cares about our residents. From supporting with personal care, preparing meals and keeping living spaces welcoming, they make a real difference in the small moments that matter. But also, they offer a friendly face, a listening ear and companionship. When it comes to helping residents live with dignity, we all do our bit.
