RESPITE CARE

Whether you’ve been caring for a loved one long-term, or helping them recuperate from a recent illness, arranging short-term respite care can work wonders for both you and your elderly family member. We all know how incredibly challenging the last two years have been and even more so for those of us that have had to look after loved ones. One in nine of us are carers in Kent and the pandemic has meant 64% of carers have not had a single break in two years.

“We chose this home for respite care for our elderly mum and from start to finish we were all welcomed, shown exceptional kindness, guided and looked after throughout our first visit. The staff are genuinely very attentive and made sure our mum had a lovely 14-day stay, which included a visit with the visiting hairdresser. It had been 3 years since we were able to have a break from caring for Mum and to know she was in the best place with the nicest staff to care for her was a weight lifted. She enjoyed her stay so much she is looking forward to returning again.”

Care after illness or hospital discharge (reablement)

If you or someone you know has been in hospital or had an illness or fall, you may be in need of temporary care. Our person-centred care and tailored support will help you re-learn vital skills to regain your confidence, get back to normal and stay independent.

This form care is sometimes called intermediate care, or aftercare. Reablement is a type of care that helps you relearn how to do daily activities, like cooking meals and washing.

Most people who receive this type of care do so for around one or two weeks, although you might be interested in short-term care for six weeks. The length of your stay is typically also dependent on how soon you are able to return confidently and comfortablely to your own home.
