How to maximise family visits during springtime in a care home

As the days grow longer and flowers continue to bloom, springtime brings a renewed sense of energy and joy to Birchwood House. It’s the perfect season to spend quality time with your loved ones, creating cherished memories that will last all year long.

Whether you’re planning your first visit in a while or you’re a regular visitor, we want to help you make the most of your family time this spring.

Here are a few ideas to enjoy this beautiful season together at Birchwood House, our home away from home.

Stroll through our nine-acre landscaped gardens

Our gardens are a highlight in the spring. The colourful flowers, fresh greenery, and gentle scents create a peaceful backdrop for a leisurely walk. Taking a stroll together can be a wonderful way to chat, reminisce, and enjoy the natural beauty all around. For those who may have mobility challenges, we ensure there are plenty of accessible paths and comfortable spots to sit and relax. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some Kentish deer!

Enjoy an alfresco afternoon tea

There’s something special about sipping tea and sharing a fresh slice of cake in our terrace on a sunny afternoon. We encourage families to make use of our outdoor seating areas to enjoy a relaxed tea together. Bring along your loved one’s favourite treats or let us help you organise a little garden picnic with our chef for a truly memorable experience.

Get involved with seasonal activities

We believe that every day should be filled with joy, connection, and purpose – and no one brings this to life better than Lizzie, our wonderful Lifestyle Lead. Lizzie personally prepares the weekly activities planner, carefully tailoring each schedule to reflect the unique needs, wishes, and interests of our residents. She takes the time to listen, understand, and truly get to know everyone, ensuring every week is packed with enriching entertainment and meaningful moments.

From planting vibrant flowers in our gardens to creating beautiful arts and crafts inspired by the spirit of spring, there are countless opportunities to get involved, have fun, and celebrate the season together. We encourage families and friends to join in.

Participating in these activities is a wonderful way to create lasting memories, strengthen bonds, and share in the creativity and joy that makes Birchwood House so special.

Capture the moments

Spring is a visually beautiful season, making it the perfect time to take some family photos. Capture the smiles, laughter, and the beauty of nature during your visit. These photos make wonderful keepsakes and can be especially meaningful to your loved one throughout the year.

Simply spend time together

Often, it’s the simplest moments that matter most. Reading a favourite book, listening to beloved music, or just holding hands in the sunshine can be incredibly comforting and fulfilling. Your presence alone can bring immense joy to your loved one’s day.

We are proud to offer a warm and welcoming environment where families can come together and celebrate every season whether in our conservatory, gardens, living rooms, or private visitor room. Springtime is a particularly special time for us, and we are always here to support you in making your visits as enjoyable and meaningful as possible.

If you would like to plan a visit or learn more about what’s happening this spring at Birchwood House, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We can’t wait to welcome you.
