Excursions at Birchwood House
Although we run a busy activities schedule, nothing beats a good day out for our residents at Birchwood House. Although we have had to halt excursions for a while due to the pandemic, we are looking forward to being able to get out and about again very soon.
Excursions are important to our residents as they provides them with a change of scenery. We always have a great day out. Over the years we have had some lovely trips, whether it be to a local garden centre, Hever Castle, Hadlow College or a trip to the seaside.
“My dad really enjoys the activities and trips that are organised and the company of staff and other residents“
I S (son of resident)
Hastings Beach
Trips to Hastings Beach are a favourite day out for our residents. The beach is known for its expanses of sand and its sea-smoothed pebbles.
Being at the seaside improves overall wellbeing, lowering stress and promoting relaxation. Our residents enjoy breathing in the ocean air and feeling the sun on their skin.
Hever Castle
Residents have really enjoyed past trips to Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn. We usually take a walk around the gardens and lakes, and visit the cafe for a snack.
Hadlow College
Hadlow College is a higher education college that covers land-based subjects including Agriculture, Horticulture, Conservative and Wildlife management, Floristry and much more! The college hosts events and open days throughout the year, such as Art in the Garden and Country Fairs. Days out at Hadlow College always get great feedback from our residents at Birchwood House.
Teapot Island
And who doesn’t like a trip to the museum? Teapot Island is one of our residents’ favourite excursions. The museum grew from the personal collection of owner Sue Blazye, who was gifted her first teapot in 1983 by her grandmother. The residents love looking at the amazing collection of teapots and ending the day with, you guessed it, a nice cup of tea!
Garden Centres
And last but not least, residents absolutely love a day out at local garden centres! We are lucky enough to have many beautiful garden centres nearby. The residents enjoy browsing the shop floors, admiring all the plants and usually leave with some treats to enjoy at home. Garden centre trips sometimes end with a delicious cream tea, too!
